I popped into town today looking for a face serum...and look what I've come back with!
I have been having such bad skin on my face due to exam stress, bad diet, sugar waxing and generally the summer heat. So I've been doing some research into acne and treating acne scars. It boiled down to the basic fact - serums that work are expensive! Kojic acid, Salicylic acid, Vitamin C and Glyoclic acid seem to be the must-have ingredients for acne treatment, with things like Vitamin E actually hindering acne scar healing. So after looking everywhere from Caudalie, La Roche Posay to The Body Shop and Lush, I decide that I will stick to simple natural ingredients like Tea Tree and Witch Hazel, which brings me to my first purchase at Lush. The Grease Lightning bottle (£6.25) has some lovely ingredients designed to help reduce inflammation, moisturise and treat all in one, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes!
I also wanted to find some cheaper skincare items for review, but I decided to give them to my boyfriend, who suffers from blemishes more regularly due to oiler skin. Wilkinsons have revamped their whole skincare and cosmetics range, and I chose a few items that suited his skin type. The Spotless range is very affordable (around £2-4) and the ingredients look good: witch hazel, salicylic acid and tea tree oil to name a few. I'll do a separate post on how well these work for him. I also picked up the Skin Therapy tea tree night balm.
Next stop - my hair! My hair is super frizzy and the Morrocan argan oil spray from Organix just isn't cutting it! So as Superdrug have half price on most of their haircare items I decided to go a little crazy and stock up on some hair serums, in order to put them to the test! I also chucked in a hair mask for good measure, as I really like the This One range so far (I have their hair serum but left it at my parents house).
I also picked up the Aussie frizz miracle hair range from Boots, as they were on offer for 3 for £10. Love, love, love the smell of this stuff and it does leave my hair ridiculously soft!
Lastly a few bits and bobs...
I've been trying to test some high street eye primers, as I cannot compare the Too Faced and Urban Decay primers until I've tried cheaper versions. My eyes are suddenly very dry and eyeshadow looks awful at the moment, so any recommendations would be useful! So I picked up the MUA eye primer, but I'm also interested in the Make Up Revolution primers too. The e.l.f. primers are okay for the price, so it's another to start comparing these to.
My Vivo brow gel is getting old now so I picked up the new Rimmel brow gel in clear (but brown and blonde versions available) and I stopped myself from picking up the new Argan infused mascara - as I have too many already! I'm really bad at booking threading appointments so brow gel saves me!
Lastly I picked up the B. is for Beautiful cosmetics BB cream in Medium, after reading the B. Cosmetics skincare post from the Sunday Girl (I believe!). The whole range looks awesome and was half price, but again I'm trying to not buy too many skincare items at the moment as I want to focus on repairing it first. I chose this for it's SPF and the swatch I took was so creamy and blended very nicely, so instead of heavy foundations I think I will be using this for the rest of summer!
As for future purchases, I want to try the Body Shop's Vitamin C skin reviver to help repair my skin, and also more from the Organix hair range, including the new Biotin shampoo and conditioner.
